SiteGround is a reputable web-hosting company that started off in the year 2004 at Sofia Bulgaria. Started by a group of students, today the company has more than 400 employees and data centers across 5 countries.
This is a self-supporting company that runs operations without the assistance of any international organization.
At present, the company hosts more than 8 00,000 domains. And this count is getting bigger with each passing day. With services in three continents, SiteGround has emerged as a popular web-hosting company. Siteground is being praised by their users globally.
Let’s test their services and get know how much they charge for their different plans.
There are three types of web-hosting packages offered by SiteGround:
Startup – Regular Plan with Basic SSL.
GrowBig – It is a medium sized plan comes with unlimited bandwidth and few advanced features like priority customer support, backup, protection, etc.
GoGeek – This is a premium hosting package, especially meant for giant database sites and eCommerce platforms.
SiteGround’s all web-hosting plans are comparatively cheaper than the plans of most of the leading web-hosting companies. Especially, when you buy them for a year or more you get a huge discount. See the following snapshot.
However, If you buy these plans only for a month, you have to pay additional setup charges, while in 12 months and above packages setup charges are off. In short, when you choose a package for a larger period, you automatically have to pay lesser.
I personally experienced that SiteGround does not provide enough flexibility on pricing. As I mentioned above, if you need to buy the package for one month only, you can’t do so without spending additional bucks. No matter what plan you have chosen.
There are a lot of features offered by each plan of SiteGround.
As you can see in the above snapshot, its ‘StartUp’ plan supports SSL certifications that is the best part of having SiteGround as your web-hosting partner. While the other two are packed with advanced wildcard SSL. Anti-malware facility is available for all three plans while the automated backup is supported by both ‘GrowBig’ and ‘GoGeek’ plans.
Apart from this, there are various other features offered by SiteGround, including unlimited email accounts, website builders, FTP accounts, etc. Coming to DDoS protection, each plan has CloudFlare CDN. SiteGround follows all the industry standards. Therefore, it facilitates all its plans with cPanel so that users can manage their server with a simple user account backend.
However, disk space limit of 20GB and 30GB in GrowBig and GoGeek plan may bother users looking for unlimited space limit.
SiteGround Customer Support:
SiteGround uses three platforms to provide customer support i.e. Ticket, Live Chat, and Phone.
Phone Support- 24/7 phone support makes SiteGround one of the most reliable and trusting web hosting companies in the terms of customer support. Customers can access their support anytime a day and get the answers for their queries related to sales, billing and technical issues.
In case they need further support for technical query, their call is transferred to the technical support team. And the query is responded through Help Desk of a User’s Area.
When I called on their phone support, it took 40 seconds on IVR to define my options and 15 seconds to connect. The representative I was interacted with was well-mannered and knowledgeable.
Ticket Service Evaluation-
Since the reliability of ticket service depends on response time, my major aim was to test their response time. And as you can see in the above snapshot, I got respond within a 2 minute. It was a great result. They even took considerably less time than their advertised response time i.e. 10 minutes.
LiveChat – While testing their live chat support system, my major aim was to evaluate 3 things that are: Wait time, Representative behavior and the third one is his knowledge. My personal experience with their representative was great. He was respectful and knowledgeable . However, there were few flaws in the pursuit of knowledge but that was ok. Coming to response time, I got connected within less than 1 minute that was amazing.
I tested the hosting performance of SiteGround in different stage periods. Let’s see what I examined.
Host Speed During Low Upkeep-
Simple HTML websites do not need high host resources to perform with high speed. Therefore, I uploaded a simple HTML website in SiteGround’s file manager. And this is the response time that Bitcacha tool showed me in different countries.
Host Speed with Website Builder-
I did not notice much change in server response time. All I can say that SiteGround’s Weebly Website Builder is fully optimized and speedy enough to be accessed anytime on any platform.
Server’s Overall Uptime
To test overall uptime server, I set up an uptime status tool to track my WordPress website. It tracked my website’s speed once every minute.
My experience- I found that the response time was quite stable throughout the day, except for few spikes a day. The overall response time I tracked was 400-500ms that I think nothing to complain about. However, the best thing that impressed me was 100% uptime throughout the duration.
Except for low disk space, I think SiteGround stands best on each and every aspect of web hosting. From pricing to features to customer there are plenty of things that impressed me.
